We knew it was April, but HBO Sunday unveiled the official premiere date of the eighth and final season of “Game of Thrones”: April 15.

The network unveiled the date, and a teaser trailer for the season, Sunday night before the debut of the third season of “True Detective.”

The long-awaited final run comes after a long break: The seventh season ended way back in August 2017. The premium-cable network’s highest-rated series will get a six-episode sendoff, its shortest season yet, which means the entire final run will air before the May 31 eligibility cutoff date for the 2019 Emmy Awards.
