Gears 5: Here's How Long It Takes To Beat The Campaign

With just about every big game, we get asked, “So how long is the story/campaign/game?” As Gears 5

releases to everyone this week, we turned to two of our editors who’ve finished it in order to answer that question.

My first Gears 5 campaign run-through, on Intermediate difficulty, took me 11 hours and 49 minutes according to the in-game clock. I did try to do every side mission in the open-world portions of Acts II and III (and, to my knowledge, I did complete them all), and I took a quick look around every environment I found to try and find as many collectibles as possible. You can definitely make Gears 5 last longer if you’re hellbent on acquiring every collectible, and of course, upping the difficulty will also stretch out your playtime.

Also, as with all Gears games, bringing a friend along for a co-op run is never a bad idea, and might be worth a second trip (particularly when cranking up the difficulty level).

Mitchell Saltzman, Gameplay Producer

With Acts II and III of Gears 5 being largely open world, its length is much more variable than prior Gears games. As someone who actively sought out every side quest available in these open-world sections, but didn’t bother too much with seeking out collectibles (which seemed to be bugged anyway), my playthrough of Gears 5 took me about 14 hours, comfortably spaced out over the course of about three days. I’m not itching to play through it again since the only real incentive would be to try it again on a harder difficulty, but the quality of the campaign was good enough to make me happy to join a friend on a co-op game.
