At New York Fashion Week, Rihanna unleashed the wild beast with women of all shapes, sizes and colors on the runway for her second season of Savage x Fenty lingerie line. (Sept. 13)
NEW YORK – Is there anything Rihanna can’t do? The answer continues to be a resounding “no” as she further solidifies herself as a multi-hyphenate star, returning to the stage Tuesday night to bring her inclusive lingerie brand Savage X Fenty back to New York Fashion Week with a fabulous show.
Rihanna transformed Brooklyn’s Barclays Center into her own intimate world, complete with a Grecian-inspired set with white stairs and archways, and brought out some of the biggest stars to the audience and the stage for her second-ever Savage show.
Some of the industry’s top models – Gigi and Bella Hadid, Cara Delevingne, Joan Smalls and Slick Woods – joined forces with model-dancers of all shapes, ethnicities and sizes and top-notch entertainers – including Migos, DJ Khaled, Halsey and Normani – to showcase a colorful variety of bras, underwear, bodysuits and sexy undergarments in the most entertaining way.
And the proof is in the performance: If there were any worries about how wearable the lingerie is, all the intense dance moves showed that everything stays right where it’s supposed to be no matter how vigorous the movement.
As if the Victoria’s Secret fashion show needed another kick while it’s down, the Savage X Fenty show delivered a one-two punch of size inclusivity and diversity to the struggling lingerie brand as it continues to shutter stores and opts to “rethink” its own annual show.
The show, which fans can stream on Amazon Prime Video on Sept. 20, was equal parts runway event, concert and dance party. Here’s everything you missed from the highly-anticipated night:

Rihanna opened the show with a sultry dance performance
Rihanna stepped out to start the show, seductively dancing in the center, rocking a sheer black catsuit, tiny velvet mini skirt, a red lip and diamonds. Surrounded by a circle of dancers, the bass-heavy opener was met with applause and cheers from the crowd.
For fans hoping for a singing performance or a preview of a new song, the dance routine was all Rihanna provided (we promise we’re grateful, and we’re not rushing you on the new music!).
She didn’t return to the stage until the end for her final bow at the end of the show, giving the camera and the audience a joyful wave before exiting the stage.
A-list celebrities from Diplo to Paris Hilton hit the red carpet
Rihanna called on all her famous friends to attend the show.
Halsey, Diplo and Normani made early entrances on the carpet. Rappers A$AP Ferg, Fat Joe, Big Sean, G-Eazy, A Boogie wit da Hoodie, Saweetie and Rico Nasty showed up and showed out. Actors Ashley Benson, Dascha Polanco, Naturi Naughton and Vanessa Hudgens also made appearances.
“She represents culture, she represents being innovative, she represents taking sexy to the new heights,” A$AP Ferg told USA TODAY.
Lingerie and Rihanna’s luxury Fenty brand were popular fashion choices on the carpet, with celebs from model Shanina Shaik to “Real Housewives of Beverly Hills” star Lisa Rinna flaunting their Fenty attire.
Paris Hilton was one of the last stars to hit the red carpet, blowing kisses to the camera.
“It’s really a testament to who she is… She’s such a strong, incredible and talented woman and the way that she makes people feel with her music is like special and loved and that’s exactly what she’s doing with clothes too. How gorgeous every looks and how inclusive it is and everyone lifting each other up, it’s such an incredible feeling backstage,” Delevingne told USA TODAY. “There’s so much love involved, so it’s different. I’ve never seen anything like this, honestly.”
“This woman has just changed the game and the culture,” Naughton said.

Halsey, DJ Khaled, Migos and more took the stage
Big Sean served up the first performance, with Gigi Hadid seductively walking over to him while “IDFWU” played in the background. He rapped his verse on “Clique” before A$AP Ferg joined him for their collaboration “Bezerk.”
Rihanna had transgender superstar Laverne Cox performing full-on choreography in a pink bodysuit as the intro to rap group Migos’ performance of “Pure Water.”
Normani didn’t sing but instead gave the crowd some motivation with her sexy dance moves to Sean Paul’s “Get Busy” while wearing sheer tights and polka-dot lingerie and gloves.
Halsey debuted her yet-to-be-released song “Graveyard,” slinking down a staircase while belting out the song.
DJ Khaled ended the night with a rap cypher, coming onstage to his hit “All I Do Is Win” and hyping up the crowd as Fat Joe rapped a snippet of “All the Way Up.” Tierra Whack popped up to rap her track “Clones,” and Fabolous made an appearance for his song “You Be Killin Em,” even switching up the lyrics to say “Rihanna, you be killin’ ’em!”
Gigi Hadid, Cara Delevingne and more top models showed off the Savage X Fenty lingerie
Nothing less than the best for Rihanna, who tapped some of the fashion industry’s top models to show off her colorful designs.
Delevingne led a contingent of dancers in all-green lingerie looks to to Tweet’s “Oops (Oh My),” while Slick Woods returned to the show (she gave birth just hours after her appearance in last year’s Savage X Fenty event).
Joan Smalls paired up with 21 Savage for a red-and-pink look, while Bella Hadid and Shanina Shaik modeled their looks in an Arabian nights-esque scene.
In a few visually stunning scenes, the model-dancers showed off their upbeat version of the “Cell Block Tango” from “Chicago,” dancing in separate archways in a tall structure on the stage.
Behind-the-scenes moments from celebs you won’t see when the show airs
While there was a lower level of the arena filled with stars, some celebs were scattered among the guests and media at the exclusive event.
Diplo took a shortcut to exit the arena, climbing over rows of seats to make a quicker escape after the show ended. The crowd dispersed into the hallway, with famous faces making their way to the doors. Paris and Nicky Hilton greeted fashion designer Diane Von Furstenberg in the hallway before getting their phones back from locked cases (yes, even celebs had to give up their phones during the show).
Following the show, celebrities including Kehlani and Diddy’s son Christian Combs hung around in the wings of Barclays while they waited for their cars. The Hilton sisters also stuck around to take selfies with fans.
