Top minister says Canada will ‘rise up loudly’ for human rights after China’s ambassador in opposition to welcoming Hong Kong pro-democracy activists

Canada will proceed to shield human rights in China, top minister Justin Trudeau has pledged, after a best Chinese language diplomat warned Ottawa in opposition to welcoming Hong Kong pro-democracy activists.

China’s ambassador to Ottawa, Cong Peiwu, warned Canada on Thursday in opposition to granting asylum to Hong Kong activists, which he mentioned may have penalties for the “well being and safety” for the 300,000 Canadians dwelling within the theoretically independent Chinese language territory.
