Myanmar army accused of new atrocities in attack on Rakhine village

Lower than 3 years since a crackdown towards Rohingya, troops are once more accused of battle crimes – this time towards Rakhine Buddhists


Kyaw Thu* waited till evening fell prior to taking his circle of relatives to the financial institution of a river no longer some distance from their village. Whilst hundreds of thousands internationally had been informed to stay at house to stick protected from the coronavirus pandemic, he and his neighbours had been pressured to escape.

That evening in March, he recollects, citizens from Tin Ma village, in Rakhine state, clambered anxiously into boats, crossed the river, then trekked thru foothills to hunt shelter within the relative protection of a close-by the town. No person switched on a torch and even lit a cigarette for worry of drawing the eye of Myanmar’s military.
