A “shameful bankruptcy” in public management has resulted in the federal courtroom approving a agreement value $1.8bn between the commonwealth and sufferers of the Coalition’s robodebt scheme.

Justice Bernard Murphy in Friday’s judgment criticised the government’s “huge failure”, noting the courtroom had heard “heart-wrenching” tales of ache and anguish from sufferers of the Centrelink debt restoration program.
