After a few days of quiet from Shawn Johnson and Andrew East, who document their life on their video blog “The East Fam,” we are finally learning more about how their daughter made her entrance.
The couple shared “part 1” of their birth journey, where it’s revealed that Johnson was induced and labored for 22 hours before eventually having a cesarean section.
She also wrote about the experience on Instagram.
“I went in with such a stubborn mindset of thinking the only way I could bring our baby into the world was naturally. No meds no intervention. At 14 hours when I chose to get an epidural I felt guilty,” she wrote.
This moment is revealed in the video, too. Johnson tells East that she is “weak” because she feels like she should be able to do it naturally.
In her post, she explains that after 22 hours, they were told she had to get a C-section.
“I felt like I had failed. But after holding our sweet girl in my arms and being told everything went well and she had made it to us safely I could have cared less.”
The video ends after doctors broke Johnson’s water. We will see more of their emotional journey in another video.
But it seems Johnson and East have moved past her unplanned entrance and are soaking up all the beautiful baby snuggles.

“My/our world no longer has anything to do with us but everything to do with her. It’s all for her and I will forever do anything for this girl that I love more than I ever could imagine. A love no one can ever prepare you for,” she wrote, also thanking the “incredible doctor and nurses” who helped.
The East family has been sharing loads of swoon-worthy photos and videos of the baby girl since her arrival, which they announced Monday. Johnson shared on Instagram Stories that they are spending time as a family, but will reveal her name soon.
