Two separate witnesses both told WDWNT about the event, with one person saying, “My friend Sam broke it last week on the 8th when we went to Disneyland. He literally ripped it out. The staff said that it was really old and that’s why he was able to do so.”
Sam’s friend called him a “pretty buff dude,” and added that it was his first time at Disneyland.

Another witness said they watched a very burly man break the sword at Disneyland, saying, “At first it seemed as if he had pulled it out, but a cast quickly came over [because] he had in fact broken it. The sword has since been fully repaired and returned to its rightful place in Fantasyland.
In the classic Disney tale The Sword in the Stone, Arthur successfully pulls the blade from the stone and is crowned as the true king. It doesn’t appear that Sam was crowned as the King of Fantasyland after breaking the display.
